APP Download

This app combined AR and VR features to teach students to learn the molecular structures. In AR mode, need molecular target to trigger the molecular 3d model. VR game scene is used to test the learning performance. We designed three playing types for adapting most situations in this molecular app.

Introduction

  • This is a learning app of organic molecular structures that combine AR and VR features.
  • Before starting, one can learn about fundamental knowledge of each type of molecules from the organic molecule cards designed for this app.
  • Once you have gained some fundamental understanding of organic molecules, you will be able to view the 3-dimensional (3D) structure and features of each organic molecule via the AR mode of this app.
  • Once you believe you have gained a sufficient level of knowledge on each type of the molecule, you can enter the game scenario to test on what you have learned through the AR mode of any cards, and select “To Game”.
  • This is the only organic molecule learning app in the market that integrated learning and gaming. This makes learning no longer a dry and boring thing, and the app can also play a role as a medium for sharing and exchanging ideas among a teacher and students.

Equipment needs

For Andriod: Version 7.0 or above.
For iOS: Version 11.0 or above. This app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

  • VR Mode: Aforementioned equipment and a pair of VR glasses, and one blue-tooth joystick. Note: If the hardware does not meet the minimum requirement, one’s VR experience will be prone to drags.

Design Concepts
The Organic Molecule AR/VR includes two major design concepts, namely,

  1. No matter which operating mode you select, you need the molecule card to initiate the game.
  2. When a card is set in front of the screen, a corresponding 3D organic molecule structure will appear, and the user can manipulate it through joystick or one’s own fingers from different perspectives.
  • Assessment for Organic Molecular Structures
    1. Within the AR mode, when the center point is located at the “To Game” label for 3 seconds, players will enter a scenario for testing.
    2. According to the task in each scenario, players need to complete the tasks of collecting organic molecules within the time given.
    3. The game has a mechanism of punishment. When a player chooses the wrong molecules, it will reduce the playing time and then a monster will appear to attack the player. To kill the monster, the player needs to click on the shooting button.
    4. When the game is over, a result will be provided.

Operation Method

This app offers two ways to operate and play as followings. You can select the operation mode in the initial interface when the app starts.

  1. Mobile touch mode: you can select this mode to enter the operation without the requirement of VR glasses and the Bluetooth joystick. Start to operate.
  2. VR Mode: This requires VR glasses and Bluetooth joystick that are compatible with the mobile phone in which the app is installed.

The Organic Molecule AR/VR includes two major designs

  • Getting to know Organic Molecules’ structure:
    When a card shows up on the screen, the corresponding 3D organic molecule structure will appear, and the molecule viewing perspective can be manipulated through joystick or one’s own fingers.
  • Organic Molecule Structure learning Assessment:
    When one selects the VR label in AR mode, the app will enter the Game Scenario for testing.
    1. Complete the tasks provided in the game within the time given using joystick or with hand.
    2. A punishment mechanism would ensue if the wrong molecule was selected.
    3. When the game was over, a simple assessment will be provided.
