As part of the joint project titled "A Global Approach to the Gender Gap in Mathematical and Natural Sciences: how to measure it, how to reduce it?" (Please see project descriptions at https://icsugendergapinscience.org/), a regional workshop will be held on November 7-8, 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan (Please see workshop descriptions at https://icsugendergapinscience.org/2017/08/13/workshop-at-national-taiwan-normal-university/).
While barriers for women still exist, one of the major goals of the UN’s sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, should receive more attention than it has in the past across the world. Therefore, we not only intend to focus our study in developed countries, but more importantly, also in emerging countries, to empower human resources for societies.
This project is designed to bring scientists from many fields and countries together to collaborate with social scientists and to learn from one another, to develop an innovative and sustainable methodology, and to build up database for best practices. The purpose of the regional workshop is to inform about the project, to get input from the regional experts to adjust to local realities, to present the three major tasks, in particular, for task 1 on global survey and task 3 on the best practice, to organize the dissemination of information about the project, to make contacts with people that are instrumental for the project, and to build connections of people from the region who are interested in this project.
The workshop will be conducted by Mei-Hung Chiu of National Taiwan Normal University. The participants will be recommended by the partnership unions and organizations who are resident in Asia as well as local scholars of the regional host. The anticipated number of the participants will be around 20-35.
