The Philippine Chemistry Congress (PCC) is an annual event where chemists and scientists in related fields in the academe, research institutions and in industry, meet to share and update themselves of. The task of organizing the Congress rotates among the four professional organization members of the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies (PFCS). The congress in 2013 is the 28th, and is being organized by the Philippine Association of Chemistry Teachers (PACT).
The PACT is the organization comprised of chemistry teachers all over the country, in the secondary and tertiary levels. The membership of PACT, like most teachers in the country, share the anxiety and excitement of the increasing implementation of the K to 12 program, and are no doubt preparing for the changes that would be expected in their teaching in the next years. It is because of the more integrative character of the science subjects in the K to 12 program, and the intention of promoting interest in pursuing careers in science among secondary students that the theme of the 28th PCC was conceptualized, and its structure slightly different from the usual PCCs. The 28th PCC is therefore particularly dedicated to the science teachers who are embarking on the K to 12 program, so that they will be armed with knowledge and inspiration that the science, the chemistry, that they teach is happening right here in our own backyard.
